Dian Fossey has always been a hero of mine since childhood and I achieved my goal of aspiring to be her in 1997 by visiting the gorillas in Rwanda.
​
Dian gave up her life for the gorillas, virtually becoming one of them as she  mimicked their behaviours in order to be included into their family.
​
This painting celebrates the relationship with her favourite gorilla Digit, who was unfortunately found beheaded not long before Dian herself was found murdered. The painting also captures the tragedy and devasting effects of poaching in Africa.
